Learning Objectives

  • Identify suitable candidates for corneal and lens-based refractive surgery based on refractive error, ocular surface status, lifestyle demands, and visual priorities
  • Interpret refractive surgery outcomes and limitations, including quality of vision, predictability, and common sources of postoperative dissatisfaction
  • Recognise preoperative risk factors and postoperative red flags that influence refractive outcomes, referral timing, and co-management decisions
  • Implement evidence-based therapeutic strategies to support corneal and lenticular healing during postoperative co-management, optimizing visual recovery and refractive stability
  • Recognise recent advances in the diagnosis and emerging treatment options for wet AMD.
  • Identify appropriate referral pathways and urgency for patients with suspected wet AMD.
  • Discuss the role of multimodal retinal imaging in the diagnosis, monitoring, and co-management of patients with wet AMD.
  • Strengthen collaborative co-management between ophthalmologists and community optometrists to optimise patient outcomes
  • Describe the indications, benefits, and limitations of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) within contemporary glaucoma management.
  • Identify patients who may be suitable for referral for MIGS and understand where it fits within the glaucoma treatment pathway.
  • Compare MIGS with conventional glaucoma surgical procedures and understand their respective roles in patient management.
  • Understand the principles of the Olleyes Visual Field system and its role in glaucoma assessment and monitoring.
  • Recognise the advantages and limitations of tablet-based visual field testing compared with conventional automated perimetry.
