Seeing Beyond Lecture: Diabetic Retinopathy: Advances in Clinical Care and Research
Date: 13/10/2021 (AEDT)
Venue: Zoom
Provider: The University of Melbourne
Contact: Anthea Cochrane, [E] antheac@unimelb.edu.au, [P] 90359892
Learning Objectives
- understand how modulating leukostasis and endothelial apoptosis may help to protect the retinal vasculature
- appreciate the benefits and limitations of the use of VEGF antagonists in the control of proliferative diabetic retinopathy
- be aware of the roles of inhibiting angiopoietin-2, integrins and inflammation in the control of diabetic macular edema
- appreciate the primary role of capillary damage in the genesis of diabetic retinopathy
- understand the spatial and temporal factors which limit our ability to visualize retinal capillaries and the flow of cells through them
- gain a broad overview of research findings to date using adaptive optics to image capillaries in the diabetic retina.
