Activity Outline

Contrary to common community expectations, the effects of menopause and perimenopause occur all over the body and include the eye, such as OSDI &ocular dryness and gland dysfunction, and increased long-term risk of IOP, elevated IOP, glaucoma, cataracts, microvasculature issues and diabetes. One in 4 Australians are currently in or approaching perimenopause and menopause. This presentation will provide the latest evidence-based information on what perimenopause and menopause can involve, who might be affected (or have it upcoming), and what to do if symptoms affect the eye.

Following that, discover the role of Cequa (ciclosporin 0.09%) in managing moderate-to-severe dry eye disease within the framework of the new DEWS III guidelines. Gain practical insights on achieving optimal clinical outcomes, including patient selection, initiating therapy, and managing expectations. The session will also feature a real-life case study demonstrating Cequa in practice.

Learning Objectives

  • Outline the basis of peri-/menopause and the affected population
  • Describe the range of potential symptoms and usual time course
  • Apply their understanding to eye care, including therapeutics and prevention
  • Explain the role of topical ciclosporin within the new DEWS III guidelines and how this fits into clinical practice
  • Provide practical guidance on obtaining the best clinical results with Cequa for the management of moderate-severe dry eye patients, including patient selection, managing expectations and writing prescriptions
