Activity Outline

Sydney Ophthalmic Specialists is hosting an evening of optometry learning presented by our team of ophthalmologists. The night will include presentations with updates in neuro-ophthalmology, glaucoma and paediatrics. There will also be an interactive case session with vitreoretinal, paediatric, oculo plastic and strabismus cases presented for audience participation. Presentations by Professor Frank Martin, Dr Michael Jones, Professor Clare Fraser,  Dr Tanya Karaconji, Dr Julia Starte, Dr Vivek Pandya, Dr Hugo Lee, Dr Cam Loveridge-Easter. 

Learning Objectives

  • Outline the risk factors for NAION based on anatomical differences between patients.
  • Discuss the medical risk factors that might trigger NAION including surgery and medications
  • Understand the effectiveness of medications used for glaucoma and know the hierarchy of drop prescribing.
  • Understand the side effects of glaucoma medications
  • Assess and manage presentation of epiphora from birth, recognise key differential diagnoses, and identify indications and urgency for referral.
  • Outline the current treatments for myopia management in the paediatric population and understand when and how to vary treatment if myopia is progressing.
  • Identify and understand treatment options for a wide variety of ophthalmic cases
