As optometrists we’re generally aware of many of the benefits of using a hydrogen peroxide lens care system – good disinfection efficacy, effective protein removal, and being preservative free.1 Despite these positives, the prescribing trend in Australia still leans heavily towards multi-purpose solutions (MPS). In 2023, 97% of reusable soft contact lens (CL) fits were prescribed a MPS – this means that 13% or less were prescribed a peroxide lens care system. The proportion is even larger globally, with 91% of reusable soft CL fits being prescribed a MPS.
