The brain and eye connection - How vision can change post-concussion and what optometry can contribute to the multidisciplinary care post-injury (August webinar)

Date: 19/08/2025 ()

Provider: OA National Provider

Activity Outline

Vision is a hugely complex neurological process (2.5 million nerve fibres) that allows us to navigate through the world and make sense of everything we come in contact with. What happens when that process of brain analysis is disrupted when we have a concussion (diffuse axonal brain injury)? How the brain interprets visual information, both from the eye and back to the eye, will be discussed along with how we can make significant changes to this process with the use of lenses, prisms, filters and the correct lens design choices. Learn more about concussion and how neuro-optometry fits into a multi-disciplinary management plan in conjunction with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, neuro-psychology and general medicine.

Learning Objectives

  • Apply lens recommendations for post-concussion patients in practice
  • Construct a brain-eye-body model of vision that is more than 20/20 vision
  • Discuss the multi-disciplinary model of care post-concussion
