Optometry Australia CPD listeners are invited to a practical, practitioner-focused episode of Talking Eyes featuring Associate Professor Richard Vojlay, a highly experienced keratoconus clinician, educator, and long-time advocate for patients. Richard has supported generations of optometrists through teaching at the University of Melbourne, and co-founded Keratoconus Australia to improve access to accurate, trustworthy information and support.

In this interview, Lien and Richard unpack keratoconus care from the clinic floor up. You will revisit the diagnostic “hints” that matter in day-to-day practice, including volatile refractive change, retinoscopy findings, pachymetry, and the importance of high-quality, repeatable topography for both monitoring and lens design. Richard shares practical pearls on counselling and behaviour change, and the need to provide realistic alternatives patients can actually use.

A major focus is demystifying hard contact lens fitting for irregular corneas. Richard discusses how to decide when spectacles or soft lenses are no longer enough, how to assess fit and centration, and how to troubleshoot common problems.
