Activity Outline

Take part in an engaging evening designed to strengthen your approach to cataract assessment and referral. Through real-world cases and discussion, we’ll cover more challenging presentations, relevant systemic factors and anesthetic considerations, with practical insights you can take back to your day-to-day practice.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify high-risk corneal conditions: Recognize the clinical and topographic features of post-refractive, ectatic, and post-surgical corneas that increase cataract surgical risk, and accurately document these on referral.
  • Understand biometry limitations: Explain why standard IOL power formulae fail in complex eyes and identify which modified formulae and investigations are appropriate for each scenario.
  • Apply appropriate pre-referral protocols: Implement correct contact lens cessation intervals, ocular surface optimisation steps, and the staged approach for pterygium patients prior to cataract referral.
  • Recognize pseudoexfoliation and its surgical implications: Implement correct contact lens cessation intervals, ocular surface optimisation steps, and the staged approach for pterygium patients prior to cataract referral.
