Activity Outline
The current adult generation of high myopes is larger than any that has come before. In this article, Associate Professor Abhishek Sharma provides a current, practical framework for understanding what is happening in the retina of your adult myopic patients, and strategies to support timely, confident clinical decision making that protects their sight.
Learning Objectives
- Learn how axial elongation causes structural retinal and choroidal change in myopia,
- Which peripheral retinal findings in high myopia carry the greatest risk of retinal detachment,
- How to recognise myopic tractional maculopathy on OCT and when to refer,
- What the ATN classification system means and how to apply it in practice, and
- How to counsel myopic patients, including post-refractive surgery patients, about their ongoing retinal risk.
