This clinical presentation provides optometrists with an evidence-based update on uveitis diagnosis, classification and management. Content includes anatomical classification; red flags for same-day referral; topical and systemic pharmacological management; emerging drug-induced uveitis patterns (GLP-1 receptor agonists, checkpoint inhibitors, bisphosphonates); and a practical co-management framework.

Learning Objectives

  • Classify uveitis anatomically and identify common aetiologies encountered in optometric practice
  • Recognise clinical features requiring same-day, urgent, or routine ophthalmic referral
  • Describe first-line pharmacological management of acute anterior uveitis including topical corticosteroids and cycloplegics
  • Identify drug-induced uveitis patterns associated with GLP-1 receptor agonists and checkpoint inhibitors
  • Apply a structured co-management framework for chronic and recurrent uveitis between optometrist and ophthalmologist
