Learning Objectives

  • To broadly understand the clinical indications for different types of Intraocular Lens platforms
  • To increase optometry patient counselling ability regarding Intraocular Lens choices
  • To understand the appropriateness of Corneal Laser Vision Correction vs. Implantable Collamer Lens Insertion vs. Refractive Lens Exchange
  • To identify complex clinical situations requiring special staged Corneal and Intraocular Lens solutions.
  • To understand the routine postoperative management of ICL implantation/Refractive Lens Exchange
  • To recognise potential postoperative complications and understand when to refer back to the original surgeon
  • Recognize the clinical features of common malignant conjunctival tumours, including squamous cell carcinoma and conjunctival melanoma
  • Differentiate malignant lesions from benign mimickers such as pterygium and pinguecula based on history and examination.
  • Understand the role of anterior segment imaging and biopsy in the diagnosis of conjunctival malignancies.
  • Identify key red flags that should prompt urgent referral to ocular oncology
  • Outline current management options, including surgical and topical therapies, and the optometrist’s role in co-management and surveillance
