Compassionate communication is one of the most effective and most human skills a clinician can master. This webinar brings together two exceptional speakers who illuminate how language can transform care: internationally renowned presenter Rachel Callander and lived experience advocate Kristina Ward.
Rachel provided the prestigious opening lecture at last year’s RANZCO (Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists) Congress. With a background in fine art and photography, and the lived experience of being a bereaved mother, Rachel brings an energising, deeply human perspective. Known for her engaging and heartfelt speaking style, Rachel uses humour and personal stories to inspire audiences to rethink their communication practices. She helps health professionals embrace the humanness of their interactions, creating environments where compassion and connection can thrive
Kristina was diagnosed with Stargardt disease almost 20 years ago and is legally blind. She is a valued member of the MDFA community, serving on our Community Reference Group, and Community Research Panel. Kristina has a led a successful career in adult education and diversity and inclusion and has raised two beautiful children.
MDFA will provide a session on research into the psychosocial impacts of macular disease. Don’t miss this opportunity to better understand the lived experience of macular diseases and gain practical tools for building more meaningful relationships, strengthening teamwork, and enhancing patient outcomes.
