Cardiopulmonary resuscitation training

When renewing your registration with AHPRA each year, you will have to declare you have completed CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training within the previous three years, as part of your CPD requirements.

AHPRA approved courses are those established by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC).

Where can I find an approved CPR course?

  • Your state division may offer specialised CPR courses for members. Please contact your state division to find out about their next scheduled CPR course.
  • Search all Commonwealth accredited CPR providers at www.myskills.gov.au type in ‘Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation’ into ‘course search’. Click on ‘view training providers’ for full list of CPR providers near you.

In 2020, a handful of accredited providers started to offer hybrid courses (part face-to-face and part online) with a few offering fully online courses. As long as the course code is ‘ HLTAID009 ( or formally HLTAID001)’ , it will meet AHPRA registration requirements.

Note: OBA has formally acknowledged that they will not take action if practitioners cannot achieve CPR training for the 1 Dec 2017 till 30 Nov 2020 period, as result of COVID-19 pandemic.

Please contact national@optometry.org.au or (03) 9668 8500  if you have questions about CPR requirements for optometrists.
