Optometry Australia and the five state organisations are actively discussing a proposal to enhance services for members and reduce member fees, by reforming the structure of the association.
Currently, our six organisations work collaboratively to deliver advocacy, services, and support for members. We believe changing how we are structured will allow us to amplify our voice, reduce duplication, and deliver even greater value to every member with lower membership fees. Approaches being considered, include reducing the number of legal entities and organisations.
Key considerations that will shape any future model are:
- maintaining and enhancing strong local connections so your needs in every state and territory continue to be heard and addressed;
- delivering cost effective and high value services;
- providing members with a direct and democratic voice in director elections; and
- ensuring the profession is positioned for future success.
What matters most will remain: trusted advocacy, CPD, PII, professional support, and our unwavering focus on advancing optometry and improving eye health outcomes.
These discussions are in their early stages. No decisions have been made. You will have the chance to provide feedback and, ultimately, decide through your vote whether we take this historic step.
This is your organisation. Your profession. Your future. Together, we can build a stronger, united Optometry Australia — and shape the future of optometry for generations to come.
