Optometry Australia is calling for expressions of interest from members to join the inaugural term of the Queensland State Advisory Committee (Q-SAC).

Q-SAC will play a vital role in shaping the work of Optometry Australia by providing Queensland-specific advice and input to the CEO and Secretariat staff. The Committee will consider and provide feedback on a wide range of issues relevant to optometry, optometrists, and community eye health, including:

  • Emerging issues in optometry and eye care
  • Policy and advocacy strategies
  • The development or updating of member resources and information

By joining Q-SAC, members will have the opportunity to contribute to the direction of their professional association, provide input on key issues and help strengthen the voice of optometry in Queensland. Members are also encouraged to champion Optometry Australia’s policy agenda and support membership engagement within the profession.

Membership and representation

Q-SAC will be comprised of up to 15 members, all of whom must be members of Optometry Queensland Northern Territory (OQNT). Members will serve two-year terms, with the inaugural term concluding on 30 June 2027. The Committee will convene virtually at least twice a year, with scope for additional meetings where need arises.

Membership is designed to reflect the diversity of the optometry profession, with representation encouraged from across:

  • Independent, corporate, public health, and academic optometry;
  • Rural, regional, and metropolitan practice settings;
  • Early, mid, and late career optometrists;
  • Culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds; and
  • Queensland’s Hospital and Health Service Districts.

Get involved

If you are passionate about the future of optometry in Queensland and would like to contribute your expertise, we encourage you to submit an expression of interest.

To apply, please submit your expression of interest to policy@optometry.org.au by Monday, October 13 2025

In 400 words or less, please outline your relevant experience in:

  • Advocacy and leadership: Providing strategic advice, contributing to policy development, and demonstrating leadership in advancing the profession.
  • Community engagement and collaboration: Engaging with professional peers, community stakeholders, or health organisations to influence positive outcomes for patients and the profession.

This is a fantastic opportunity to represent your peers, ensure your voice is heard on matters that shape our profession, and contribute to stronger eye health outcomes for Queensland communities.
