Welcome to Optometry Australia’s Mentoring Program.

Our mentoring program is a peer-to-peer program, facilitated by an easy-to-use complimentary online platform. The platform makes it easy to sign up as a mentor or mentee and to find a mentor match. Launched in 2020, Optometry Australia’s Mentoring Program will help you access peer support to grow your professional career.

Please login with your member number below to enter the platform.

Mentors – Do you have a passion for sharing your professional insights? Would you like to give back to the profession? If you could go back to your earlier days and give yourself career advice, what would it be?

Mentees – Are you returning to work after career break? Are you thinking about entering a new scope of practice or looking to strengthen a particular area of practice? Are you a newly graduated optometrist looking for guidance?

The platform steps you through how to make the most of a mentoring match and supports you to set up mentoring catch-ups. Participants may be located in different geographic areas domestically or internationally, and catch-ups may be primarily virtual.

Areas include :

  • Advanced Contact Lenses
  • Aged Care / Mobile Eyecare
  • Business Innovation
  • Dry Eye Management
  • Low Vision and Disability Support
  • Ocular Disease and Therapeutics
  • Paediatric Optometry / Myopia Control
  • Practising in Regional/Rural Areas
  • Practising in Tertiary Settings
  • Public Health
  • Pursuing Academic / Research Career
  • Recent Graduate
  • Returning to Practice after Career Break
  • Starting/Purchasing a Practice

Mentors – After logging in, highlight which areas you’d be willing to mentor a peer, how many peers you’d be happy to mentor and share a few sentences about your skills and expertise. Mentees looking for a mentor in the areas of expertise you have flagged will see your profile and may request to be mentored by you. You then choose whether or not to accept the request. A myriad of educational resources are available to support you along your mentor journey.
