Classrooms around Australia will soon feature a new face in the room: Eye Guy.

Eye Guy is the illustrated character of Optometry Australia’s education materials for teachers and students, developed as part of the Children’s Vision Campaign.

The resources have been developed in conjunction with Kids Media, specialists in educational material.

Optometry Australia marketing campaigns manager Trinity Scarf said the range of free education material for the classroom would help build awareness of the importance of healthy vision among children.

‘The Australian curriculum-appropriate unit of work will carry the theme “Good Vision for Life” and go into schools nationally next term. The resources include cross-curricular lesson ideas, student activity sheets, facts and figures about eye health, information sheets for parents and loads of fun activities for students,’ Ms Scarf said.

‘Central to the resources is a newly created character, the Eye Guy, who has been designed to appeal to children. Our next phase will be to adapt these materials for use by our members in their practices.’

The Children’s Vision Campaign includes a partnership with online parenting website Kidspot, which is hosting content and images relating to children’s eye health, and a short promotional video to be shared on social media.
