Activity Outline

Retinal issues for anterior segment surgery; The course will be delivered as a didactic article referenced to scientific literature and having a self-assessment module to direct and quantify learnings.  The content is directed to surgeons, optometrists and allied health providers covering retinal issues that may impact the outcomes from cataract surgery.  Dr Patrick Versace as a specialist anterior segment/ cataract and refractive surgeon brings the anterior surgeon perspective whilst and Dr Chris Qureshi - a specialist vitreoretinal surgeon – takes us back to the retina.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the impact of vitreo retinal problems on the outcome of cataract surgery
  • Identify preoperative retinal issues that may require presurgical management
  • Enhance patient counselling re expected course of cataract surgery
  • Identify and manage intraoperative retinal complications
  • Identify postoperative retinal features that may account for reduced vision
