You may have read, or heard, that the University of Western Australia recently announced that it will offer a new entry-level course for optometry (a three year postgraduate Doctor of Optometry) beginning in 2021. Whilst there are some potential benefits in this for Australian optometry, particularly in Western Australia, we have concerns about the introduction of an additional course and its impact on workforce supply/demand balance.

We are seeking your support to call on the Australian Government to reconsider funding systems for university places for optometry and to consider approaches that require consideration of community need for services.
