Activity Outline

South West Vision Institute is a multi-disciplinary ophthalmology practice located in Liverpool and Campbelltown, has been dedicated to serving the community for more than 12 years. At South West Vision Institute we specialize in a wide variety of eye conditions, such as cataract surgery, offering a wide variety of lens choices as well as the latest surgical techniques including laser assisted cataract surgery.

We will be holding our Annual Optometry Education Event on the 21st of May, 2024.
It will be held at 
Camden Valley Inn - Valley View Room starting at 6pm. Dinner will be provided, and you will all be in for a treat!

Learning Objectives

  • Learn how to safely diagnose and treat non-infectious anterior uveitis
  • Learn when to suspect viral anterior uveitis
  • Learn how to safely diagnose and treat episcleritis
  • Learn how to safely diagnose and manage marginal keratitis
  • Learn how to assess the tarsal conjunctiva to make the correct diagnosis in keratoconjunctivitis
  • Describe characteristics of a lesion
  • Identify common eyelid lesions
  • Identify red flags for malignant lesions
  • Identify which lesions require urgent oculoplastic referral
  • Have an understanding of treatments available for lid lesions
  • Confidently identify the abnormal pupil
  • Accurately diagnose common causes of anisocoria
  • Learn how to safely diagnose certain conditions like Horner's Synrome and a comprehensive 3rd nerve palsy
  • Provide safe care in the community by being able to clinically evaluate this common finding
  • Understand the difference between certain conditions like Horner's Synrome and a comprehensive 3rd nerve palsy
  • Evaluate anisocoria in a logical and structured manner
  • Understand the spectrum of Primary Angle Closure Disease
  • Identify a patient with Acute Angle Closure attack
  • Understand that Anterior Segment OCT is a useful adjunct in diagnosis
  • Briefly identify the role of cataract surgery in management of Primary Angle Closure Disease
  • Initiate initial management steps including referral of the patient to emergency services
  • Have a better appreciation for a few less common retinal or optic nerve conditions
  • Have an approach to dealing with symptoms when there are no signs
  • Better appreciate the layers on OCT
  • Better understand the roles of various types of multimodal imaging
  • Have a greater appreciation for the retinal microvasculature
