Activity Outline

1) Glaucoma or Brain Tumour: Professor Mitchell Lawlor

Glaucoma is the most common optic nerve neuropathy, but how do you make sure your patient doesn’t have a brain tumour instead? Glaucoma ihas characteristic changes that are evident on clinical examination, optical coherence tomography (OCT) and visual field testing. A range of other diseases also cause OCT changes with visual field loss. Each optic nerve disease has different treatments, so it is imperative to make the correct diagnosis for each patient. This talk will cover how to differentiate between different optic neuropathies.

2) Tailoring Vision: Exploring Bausch + Lomb Contact Lens Technologies Through Case Studies: Simon Hanna

This presentation will look at how optometrists can tailor contact lens solutions to different patient presentations. Overviewing Bausch and Lomb’s contact lens technologies, Professional Services Manager Simon Hanna will look at how various clinical case studies require a customised approach and how Bausch and  Lomb lenses can optimise patient outcomes based on individual visual and lifestyle requirements.

Learning Objectives

  • Differentiate between glaucoma and other optic neuropathies based on clinical examination, optical coherence tomography (OCT) and visual field findings
  • Consider which Bausch & Lomb contact lens is most suitable for different patient presentations
  • Explain why specific technologies are beneficial for different visual or lifestyle needs
  • Better identify the needs of patients and what considerations should take place prior to fitting a contact lens
