Activity Outline
Face to face interactive session for optometrists and GPs with a focus on glaucoma and cataract. Glaucoma types, diagnosis and diagnostic techniques, treatment alternatives and clinical pearls will be discussed with case studies to allow interaction between the health professionals. The impact of cataracts on mobility, guidelines for referral, treatment and new surgical techniques will be discussed including the role of collaboration of GP and optometry care.
Learning Objectives
- Have better understanding of Glaucoma and its clinical subtypes
- Gain clear understanding of necessary diagnostic techniques required to differentiate between the subtypes in order to appropriately treat
- Understand current guidelines for ongoing monitoring, when to treat and when not to treat, the role of the optometrist and the GP in management of the glaucoma patient long term.
- Better understand cataract and how it impacts vision in the setting of lifestyle and mobility especially for compromised patients
- Gain a clearer picture of how cataract surgery and MIGS can help in manage patients who also have glaucoma
- Gain a clearer understanding of the role of GPs and optometrists in the collaborative care of the cataract patient with ophthalmology.
