The CPD event will showcase a mixture of clinical, therapeutics and interactive sessions.
Learning Objectives
- Identify risk factors associated with increased likelihood of retinal toxicity while on Hydroxychloroquine
- Distinguish Hydroxychloroquine retinal toxicity from other retinal pathologies
- Know what tests and imaging modalities can be used to help detect early toxicity
- Know when to refer to an ophthalmologist for further evaluation
- Learn new melanoma treatments that have drastically altered morbidity and mortality
- Understand systemic effects from melanoma treatment including ocular complications and their management
- Familiarise with ocular conditions related to Covid-19 and identify rare complications secondary to recent COVID infection
- Identify patient at risk of diplopia after cataract surgeries
- Investigate post cataract surgery diplopia
- Manage patients with diplopia following cataract surgery
- Learn examine patient before corneal FB removal.
- Remove corneal metallic foreign body including rust deposits from corneal epithelium
- Know when to refer patients with ocular foreign body
- Identify corneal and ocular surface diseases symptoms signs in prospective cataract patients and therapeutic measures that can be instigated to avoid surgical delays, reduce intraoperative risk and post operative visual morbidity
- Detect key findings that should a cataract patient to a corneal surgeon to maximise correctable visual outcomes
- Differentiate between a marginal and an infective corneal ulcer and tailoring the therapeutic intervention accordingly
- Understand why a high index of suspicion for keratoconus is important to avoid visual loss on an Optometrist's watch
- Have knowledge of referral pathways to patients with concomitant cataract and Fuch's endothelial dystrophy
