Activity Outline

This interactive presentation will explore pigment epithelial detachments (PEDs) by utilising a case-based approach employing multimodal imaging. Collaborate with your colleagues in small groups through the use of virtual breakout rooms, learning from each other as well as from CFEH optometrists Carol Chu and Helene Ly who will be presenting this event. Over the course of 90 minutes, you will learn to identify which presentations can be managed within optometric practice and which should be referred to Ophthalmology/other medical or allied health practitioners for observation or therapeutic intervention.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the aeitology and imaging characteristics of pigment epithelial detachment (serous, drusenoid, fibrovascular)
  • Identify red flags indicating prompt referral to Ophthalmologist, and explore approaches for managing PED in optometric practice
  • Be aware of the various ocular and systemic conditions associated with PEDs, and the importance of multidisciplinary care in management of macular disease involving PED
