Activity Outline

CPD will be delivered to optometrists in a face to face format along with interactive questions.  Dr Hamish McKee will discuss corneal laser-based refractive surgery and also discuss lens-based refractive surgery.  Participants will learn to understand all facets of refractive surgery including patient suitability and the different types of procedures available for their patients.

Learning Objectives

  • To understand the difference between the types of corneal laser refractive surgery: PRK, LASIK and SMILE
  • To understand which refractive errors these procedures can treat
  • To understand who is/isn't suitable for corneal laser refractive surgery
  • To understand when phakic intraocular lenses are preferable to laser
  • To understand the use of refractive lens exchange and refractive cataract surgery in presbyopic patients
  • To understand which patients are more suitable for monovision than multifocal lenses
