Activity Outline

Vision Australia, a leading national provider of services for people who are blind or have low vision, offers a wide range of support, including practical advice, training, and resources to help individuals achieve their goals and live independently. This professional development event will enhance practitioners' understanding of the services Vision Australia provides and guide them on when to refer patients to us.

Presentation 1 (6:30-7:00pm): Where to after driving? Orientation & Mobility explained - Mr Daniel Ong

Presentation 2 (7:00-7:30pm): Role of Occupational Therapy in Low Vision and Blindness - Ms Jane Berry

Presentation 3 (7:30-8:00pm): Your Low Vision Patient - Mr Christopher Li

Learning Objectives

• Understand the transportation options available to patients after they are no longer able to drive
• Understand and experience the progression of vision loss in relation to orientation & mobility, including the use of landmarks and the exploration of integrating mainstream apps to assist with this
• Develop a better understanding of the role of an OT for different stages of vision change (in adults)
• Develop a better understanding of some common everyday occupational barriers for low vision/blind patients and the strategies/equipment​ that can help these individuals
• Develop a better understanding of available Blind/Low Vision Entitlements for low vision patients
• Be updated on statistics for eye conditions that lead to vision loss
• Develop a better understanding of the optical aids available to support low vision patients
• Review low vision patient case studies to learn how to care for and support low vision patients
