Learning Objectives

  • Describe the three key clinical techniques for assessing corneal integrity
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the signs of keratoconus
  • Identify corneal changes related to orthokeratology
  • Describe the technique of orthokeratology and the benefits that it offers
  • Identify corneal topography patterns of response to orthokeratology lens wear
  • Demonstrate familiarity with appropriate refractive limits and indications for orthokeratology
  • Describe some of the serious complications of contact orthokeratology lens wear for a patient and the management of the problems
  • Use a corneal topographer and a corneal tomographer
  • Interpret standard reports for topography and tomography
  • Understand the use of the Flat-K and Delta-K indices with orthokeratology
  • Discuss the prevalence of myopia
  • Describe the importance of orthokeratology in the context of myopia control
  • Demonstrate familiarity with parameter selection for orthokeratology fitting
  • Discuss the fitting and parameter selection for orthokeratology lenses
  • Recognise both, ideal and unsuitable fluorescein fitting pattern appearances with orthokeratology lenses
  • Demonstrate familiarity with appropriate refractive limits and indications for orthokeratology
  • Identify key corneal topography and tomographic patterns diagnostic of irregular corneal conditions such as keratoconus
  • Explain the wearing schedule to a new orthokeratology lens wearerv
  • Explain the after-care schedule to a new orthokeratology lens wearer
  • Discuss the adverse effects of orthokeratology
