Learning Objectives

  • 1. conduct a thorough medical history when examining patients living with diabetes
  • 2. collaboratively co-manage patients and liase with other involved health professionals who are involved in the patient’s diabetes care
  • 3. understand the treatment options for diabetic retinopathy
  • 4. appreciate the benefits and limitations of treatment options for diabetic retinopathy
  • 5. understand the importance in the role of optometrists in the co-management and involvement in the decision making process for diabetes eye related care management options with ophthalmologists
  • 6. understand the and manage diabetes related ocular surface changes including dry eye management
  • 7. understand the clinical importance and medico legal significance with thorough and adequate clinical record keeping
  • 8. appreciate the added benefits of advancing technology including ultra wide retinal imaging in further assessing the retina
  • 9. Understand and appreciate how why both current and advancing technologies are both required to acquire the thorough clinical assessment.
