Learning Objectives

  • Understand how vitreomacular traction (VMT) develops and contributes to macular hole formation
  • Recognise the stages of macular hole progression, from VMT to full-thickness holes
  • Identify key risk factors including age, myopia, ocular trauma, and previous surgeries
  • Evaluate surgical options for macular holes, including vitrectomy, internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling, and gas tamponade
  • Identify key clinical signs and symptoms of keratoconus – Recognise early and advanced manifestations such as irregular astigmatism, scarring, and corneal cone shape
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic techniques for keratoconus – Demonstrate the use of corneal topography, pachymetry, and Epithelial OCT to assess the severity and progression of keratoconus
  • Assess patient eligibility for corneal crosslinking (CXL) – Determine appropriate candidates for CXL based on corneal thickness, progression of disease, and age
  • Differentiate between CXL techniques – Compare traditional and accelerated CXL methods and explore the advantages and limitations of each approach. EPI ON vs EPI OFF
  • Become familar with MIGS devices and technologies
  • Understand the role of MIGS in the multidisciplinary approach to glaucoma care
  • Discuss patient selection criteria for MIGs
  • Practice firing the iStent into a synthetic eye model, gaining a basic understanding of the procedure and device handling in a simulated/surgical setting.
