Learning Objectives

  • 1. Interpreting OCT changes in glaucoma progression 2. Understanding the relationship of OCT and visual fields in glaucoma progression
  • 1. To understand how to manage foreign bodies and corneal abrasions including foreign body removal, therapeutic treatments and when to refer for specialist care. 2. To understand the potential sequelae of foreign bodies and corneal abrasions (such as recurrent erosion syndrome) and how to manage them.
  • 1. To understand the factors, both physical and psychological that contribute to a positive outcome with presbyopia-correcting IOLs. 2. To understand the normal adaptation post presbyopia-correcting IOL implantation to better manage patients through the post-operative period.
  • 1. To recognise the patients who would benefit from SMILE 2. To understand the potential risks and benefits of this surgery
  • To understand the contributing factors to patient under treatment and persistence with wet AMD.
  • 1. To be able to differentiate between true disc oedema and pseudo disc oedema. 2. To understand the potential causes of true disc oedema and how these should be managed including the urgency of referral.
  • 1. To understand the effect that pregnancy has on the eyes and how topical medications applied to the eyes may affect the pregnancy. 2. To learn how to evaluate the risk vs benefit when considering investigations, management and treatments for pregnant patients.
  • 1. To understand and identify the different types of visual illusions and hallucinations 2. To be able to identify potential causes of the visual symptoms to counsel and manage the patient
  • 1. Be aware of potential areas of clinical practice associated with increased risks of medicolegal litigation 2. Develop strategies to reduce risk of medicolegal litigation
  • 1. To better understand the suitability requirements for refractive surgery and how to include or exclude patients from suitability 2. To better understand how to preempt and manage problems that arise post refractive surgery
  • 1. Understand the universal classification of angle closure disease 2. Understand the medical and laser management of primary angle closure Glaucoma
  • 1. To compare and contrast the global issues in ophthalmology in the first world and developing countries 2. To understand and manage patient expectations in refractive surgery through case studies
