Activity Outline

ESA Grand Rounds Seminars aim to update practitioners on new advances and future directions for specific eye disorders and technology.

Our events are accredited by Optometry Australia and participants will be able to receive points towards Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for completing this session.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the different elements of corneal topography
  • Appreciate how corneal topography can be used in common clinical presentations
  • Appreciate the limitation of corneal topography
  • Appreciate how topography can be used to investigate unexplained vision loss
  • Understand the Range and Benefits of Customised Intraocular Lenses (IOLs): Attendees will gain comprehensive knowledge about the different types of IOLs available, including monofocal, multifocal, toric, and extended depth of focus (EDOF) lenses. They will learn how each type of lens can benefit patients with specific visual needs and improve postoperative visual outcomes.
  • Identify the Importance of Tailoring IOL Selection to Individual Patient Needs: Participants will learn the criteria for selecting the appropriate IOL for each patient, considering factors such as lifestyle, pre-existing conditions, and specific visual requirements. The objective is to enhance attendees' ability to guide their patients in making informed decisions about cataract surgery.
  • Master Effective Communication and Education Strategies for Cataract Surgery: This objective equips optometrists with tools and techniques for effectively communicating with patients about cataract surgery, including setting realistic expectations, addressing fears, and debunking common misconceptions. Can be utilised within their practices to prepare patients for surgery, thereby ensuring a more informed informed decisions about cataract surgery.
  • Enhance Patient Satisfaction and Outcomes through Collaborative Care Models: Aims to demonstrate how optometrists play a crucial role in the pre- and post-operative care of cataract surgery patients by closely collaborating with surgeons. Participants will learn how partnerships facilitate seamless patient experiences and also contribute to better surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction by ensuring continuous care and monitoring, tailored advice, and early detection of potential complications
