What is it about?

Floaters are a common presentation in practice, but knowing when to reassure and when to refer is critical. In this session, I’ll cover the essentials of floater management, from red flags you can’t afford to miss to cases where floaters signaled serious conditions like retinal detachments or retinitis. As a quadruple fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon, I’ll also share surgical videos and real-world cases to illustrate the spectrum of outcomes.

By the end of this session, in addition to being full from your 3-course meal, you’ll be able to confidently manage floaters, avoid FOMO on critical diagnoses, and know when your patient needs a retinal specialist. Together, let’s ensure no floater gets overlooked!

Learning Objectives

  • Consider differentials in patients with floaters, identifying red flags and knowing when to refer or reassure
  • Understand the basic principles of vitrectomy surgery by watching surgical videos
