Activity Outline
This Event will consist of three evenings catering to 30-35 optometrists per evening. The same content will be delivered on each evening. Dr David Gunn will present Ray Tracing LASIK with Alcon Innoveyes, next-generation spiral multifocal lenses and lenticle extraction with Ziemer Z8 and Dr Brendan Cronin will present painless PRK with new medication regime and Allotex Corneal inlays. Each speaker will have one and a half hours of educational content. This will be interactive with small group breakouts and the contact will be therapeutic focused.
Bookings can be made at https://qei.zohobackstage.com/FocusVisionCPDNightMay2025#/ or by contacting Natalie at natalie.harel@focusvision.com.au.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the principles of ray tracing technology in LASIK and how it customizes the ablation for optimal refractive outcomes.
- Identify how the Alcon Innoveyes platform improves visual acuity and reduces higher-order aberrations compared to traditional LASIK methods.
- Recognize patient selection criteria for achieving the best refractive outcomes using the Wavelight Plus system.
- Describe the design features of Rayner’s spiral multifocal lenses and their impact on visual performance across distances.
- Compare the dysphotopsia profile of Rayner spiral multifocal lenses with traditional multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs).
- Evaluate the clinical benefits of Rayner spiral multifocal lenses for patients seeking spectacle independence.
- Explain the mechanism of corneal lenticle extraction (CLEAR) using the Ziemer Z8 laser and its advantages over traditional flap-based procedures.
- Assess the suitability of CLEAR for patients with dry eye syndrome and its impact on postoperative ocular surface health.
- Differentiate CLEAR from other lenticle extraction techniques in terms of precision and recovery time.
- Outline the steps of the painless PRK procedure, including the use of 0.1% tetracaine and corneal chilling techniques.
- Analyze how the new medication and operative cooling regime reduces postoperative pain in PRK compared to traditional approaches.
- Identify ideal candidates for painless PRK and strategies to optimize their recovery experience.
- Understand the mechanism of the Allotex corneal inlay and how it corrects presbyopia by altering corneal optics.
- Evaluate the clinical advantages of the Allotex corneal inlay over traditional presbyopia treatments such as monovision or multifocal lenses.
- Identify ideal patient candidates for the Allotex corneal inlay based on age, refractive status, and lifestyle needs.
