Activity Outline

GENEYE is an immersive education event run by Eye and Ear Hospital Education.

GENEYE is a group of individuals who aspire to learn in new and different ways. We strive for high performance in the field of eye health provision. We range from medical students to orthoptists, junior doctors, trainee ophthalmologists and the most advanced and experienced consultant ophthalmologists. In 2024 we invite optometrists to join us for the first time for the first day of GENEYE. At GENEYE we aspire to improve. We identify with progress, access the latest technology, and invite the most compelling speakers. We improve through collaboration. We allow ourselves opportunities to learn from our mistakes in positive environments. At GENEYE we look after ourselves and each other, so that we can better look after our patients.

Optometrists are invited to join medical students, orthoptists and junior doctors on Day 1 of our live event.  GENEYE is completely immersive.  We have 3 AM stations and 8 PM stations.  Every station is interactive and includes briefing and debriefing as well as reflection.  AM stations include virtual reality eye surgery, dry lab simulation learning microsurgery, actual practice consenting and explaining cataract surgery to patients and an interactive discussion with peers as well as a high performance clinical and coaching psychologist and ophthalmologist about preparing to perform as eye health professionals.  In the afternoon we have dedicated practice on 2 different virtual reality surgical platforms, an ergonomics station so we learn to look after and protect our bodies, 2 further sports psychology stations and several stations allowing us to find out about some of the latest technologies utilised in eye surgery as well as 2 artificial intelligence stations.
