Learning Objectives
- To understand a systematic approach to optic nerve head assessment that reflects the latest evidence-base and be able to apply this systematic approach to optic nerve head assessment to actual patients seen at the Centre
- To be able to interpret both the RNFL and Ganglion cell analysis printouts on the Cirrus OCT
- To be able to identify structural and functional changes that are characteristic of glaucoma
- To be able to accurately interpret visual field results and understand the implications of using the SITA Faster paradigm
- To understand retinotopic organisation and the concept of concordance between structural and functional changes
- To investigate a range of ocular conditions (other than glaucoma) that cause thinning of the retinal nerve fibre layer and understand that glaucoma is a diagnosis of exclusion
- To understand the concept of retrograde degeneration and the effect of visual pathway lesions have on both the ganglion cell analysis and visual fields
- To understand the concept of progression and its importance in establishing a glaucoma diagnosis
