Activity Outline

This event will be an interactive discussion of relevant cases to optometrists by four ophthalmologists.

Topics will include: Differentiating between retinal diseases, Early IOL removal for the treatment of glaucoma, "What's that bump?" when looking at eyelids, and cognitive impairment and the relationship cataract surgery has with this diagnosis. 

Learning Objectives

  • Follow unusual presentations and carefully keep an open mind to alternate retinal diagnoses, allowing signs to guide diagnosis rather than fitting signs into a preconceived diagnosis.
  • Understand early cataract surgery for narrow angle (Van Herrick detection of narrow angles) and indications for proceeding with lens removal or PI
  • Determine if eyelid bumps and lumps are needing urgent medical attention.
  • Understand when cataract surgery helps a person's quality of life when they have cognitive impairment.
