Latest Innovation in Keratoconus, AMD and Dry Eye Management & OCT/FB workshop

Activity Outline

This education evening will consist of 3 separate sessions, each lasting a total of 60 minutes in duration. 

One session will be based on Keratoconus management, the presenting doctor will deliver a short lecture, providing an overall on the latest innovations on Keratoconus management.  This will be followed by an interactive session, polling answers to multiple choice questions as a form of knowledge check.  Additionally, there will be a wet lab session on  CAIRS implantation, which will be providing the opportunity for the attendees to perform the procedure. 

The second session will cover two topics, on the latest advances in AMD treatments, as well as an OCT interpretations Workshop.  It will be delivered as a short lecture, followed by an interactive session, polling answers to multiple choice questions as a form of knowledge check. Also breaking up into smaller group sessions, to discuss specific examples, case studies and treatment options/methods. Following this opportunity of higher level engagement amongst attendees, the smaller groups will re-join as a main group to share discussions and learnings, allowing for valuable feedback to be received from the presenting doctor and fellow colleagues/attendees.

The third session will be based on removal of foreign bodies and a dry eye workshop. Dr Kenneth Ooi will deliver a short lecture providing an overall on the latest innovations on dry eye management including eye drops, lid hygiene and other forms of the latest treatment. This will then be followed by an interactive session of foreign body removal where the attendees will have the opportunity to attempt this to strengthen their confidence with a patient in their clinic.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop a better understanding of the signs and symptoms of the different levels of keratoconus
  • Develop a better understanding of the rationale behind the therapeutic and surgical management of keratoconus, be able to confidently co-manage patients with this condition
  • Confidently undertake diagnostic testing to form a diagnosis of keratoconus and be able to initiate an appropriate management plan
  • Develop a solid understanding of both the therapeutic medication and surgical management options in the treatment of keratoconus
  • Develop a better understanding of the signs and symptoms of the different levels of AMD
  • Develop a better understanding of the rationale behind the therapeutic and surgical management of AMD and be able to confidently co-manage patients with this condition
  • Confidently undertake diagnostic testing to form a diagnosis of AMD and be able to initiate an appropriate management plan
  • Develop a solid understanding of both the therapeutic medication and surgical management options in the treatment of AMD
  • Develop a better understanding of interpreting Optical Coherence Tomography
  • Develop a better understanding of the signs and symptoms of the different levels of dry eye
  • Develop a better understanding of the rationale behind the therapeutic and surgical management of dry eye and be able to confidently co-manage patients with this condition
  • Develop a solid understanding of both the therapeutic medication and surgical management options in the treatment of dry eye
  • Perform confidently the removal of a foreign body confidently
