Learning Objectives

  • An overview of the approach to the patient with non – organic visual loss will be given
  • A comprehensive list of differential diagnoses will be presented and worked through
  • When to investigate and when to refer will be explained
  • Become more comfortable understanding what features in a skin lesion make it more likely to be malignant
  • Develop a knowledge of clinical features of ocular surface squamous neoplasia. Be able to point out features that will help differentiate these conditions from common pterygia.
  • Gain knowledge of the clinical features of conjunctival melanoma, and how to differentiate this entity from benign causes of conjunctival pigmentation.
  • Understand the pupil reflex and pathway
  • Understand how to test pupils
  • Differential diagnosis of common pupil abnormalities
