Learning Objectives

  • To understand the different types of retinal artery and vein occlusions and their clinical features.
  • To understand the principals of management of retinal artery and vein occlusions and to recognise important complications.
  • To be familiar with strategies for monitoring glaucoma suspects prior to referral top ophthalmology
  • To identify key features in a patients’ workup that would suggest a need for referral to ophthalmology
  • Know how to deal with StEPS referrals
  • understand what is meant by emmetropisation
  • Know the danger signs in screening children
  • Understand what are the important causes and risk factors of a red eye that are vision threatening
  • logically examine a patient with an acute red eye
  • Be familiar with the management principles of an acute red eye
