Learning Objectives

  • 1.1. 1. Explain risk factors for myopia progression for your patients 2. List pros and cons of different myopia management strategies 3 .Discuss key considerations for choosing a myopia management strategy
  • Regarding Concussion & mTBI: 1.Overview of the pathophysiology & associated public health significance 2.Why vision might be impacted, role of vision care providers 3.Occurrence of common sensorimotor vision conditions 4.Evidence-based, high-yield vision examination, along with a sampling of additional neuro-optometric rehabilitation testing procedures 5.Referral criteria for detailed vision evaluation, neuro-rehab management 6.Aspects of vision rehab for common vision sensorimotor deficits
  • 1.3 Regarding stroke: 1.Overview of the pathophysiology & associated public health significance 2.Why vision might be impacted, role of vision care providers 3.Occurrence of common sensorimotor vision conditions 4.Evidence-based, high-yield vision examination, along with a sampling of additional neuro-optometric rehabilitation testing procedures 5.Referral criteria for detailed vision evaluation, neuro-rehab management 6.Aspects of vision rehab for common vision sensorimotor deficits
  • 1.4 1.Acquired brain injury (ABI) sub-categories 2. Why vision function may be impacted and the role of vision care providers. The occurrence of common sensorimotor vision conditions 3. An evidence-based, high-yield vision examination, along with a sampling of possible diagnostic testing performed by neuro-optometry /rehabilitative optometry The referral criteria for detailed vision evaluation/ vision rehabilitation and overall neuro-rehabilitation management
  • 1.5 1.acquire an appropriate understanding of the symptoms of accommodative dysfunction secondary to concussion, and the evidence base for the symptoms and association 2. have a good understanding of competent assessment of accommodative - convergence functions in patients who have experienced a concussion or whiplash or other acquired brain injury 3. develop a knowledge of treatment principles including lenses and vision therapy for accommodative dysfunctions in acquired brain injury
  • 2.1 Regarding acquired brain injury (ABI), attendees will become familiar with and be able to apply the following aspects related to neuro-optometric rehabilitation (NOR) therapy: 1. Its sub-categories 2. Why vision function may be impacted and the role of vision care providers 3. Criteria for referring for detailed vision evaluation and neuro-rehabilitation management
  • 2.1 4 .Aspects of vision rehabilitation, types of vision rehabilitation providers, and general concepts regarding neural plasticity 5. Neuro-optometric rehabilitation therapy (NORT) for selected sensorimotor vision function deficits, including the: a) Underlying neurological correlates b) Primary associated vision symptoms c) Possible NORT options
  • 2.2. Regarding acquired brain injury (ABI), attendees will become familiar with and be able to apply the following: 1. It's sub-categories, along with why vision function may be impacted and the role of vision care providers 2. Inter-professional neuro-rehabilitation professional team, along with criteria for referring for detailed vision evaluation and neuro-rehabilitation management
  • 2.2 3. Aspects of vision rehabilitation, common sensorimotor vision deficits, and discussions regarding vision input on return to school/ return to work, all of which were examplified with cases regarding a) Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) / concussion b) Stroke c) Visual-vestibular dysfunction
  • 2.3 Regarding visual-vestibular conditions, attendees will become familiar with and be able to apply the following: 1. Possible etiologies and the inter-professional neuro-rehabilitation team 2. Why vision function may be impacted and the role of vision care providers 3. An overview of common sensorimotor vision deficits and the associated high-yield vision assessment
  • 2.3 4. Criteria for referring for detailed vision evaluation and neuro-rehabilitation management 5. Approaches to vision rehabilitation for visual-vestibular conditions: a) Common ophthalmic treatment options b) Vision rehabilitation providers c) Common vision deficits with associated abbreviated underlying neurology, associated vision symptoms and generalized rehabilitative approaches
  • 2.4 1. Understand important fundamental principles in providing successful vision therapy for patients having sustained mABI 2. Discuss the current model of axis management in patients having sustained mABI 3. Understand the relevance of specific vision therapy activities used to treat visual dysfunctions in patients having sustained mABI
  • 2.5 1. signs and symptoms of photophobia and pattern glare in patients who have suffered concussion or other ABI, and the evidence base for the symptoms and association 2. clinical assessment of photophobia and pattern glare, and possibly associated conditions such as visual motion sensitivity, in patients presenting with a history of concussion or other ABI 3 options for treating photophobia and pattern glare, the advice to patients and timescales for treatment and symptomatic improvement

Max points awarded: 20.00
