Recent Graduate Evening: Your burning questions answered
Recent Graduate members in South Australia are cordially invited to attend our Recent Graduate Evening: Your burning questions answered.
The first few years working in optometry can be fun, challenging and sometimes even stressful, and at the same time you may be thinking about your future career plans. Please join us at the Marion Hotel for insights into the most frequently asked questions from OA’s optometry advisor help desk – plus, dinner and drinks are on us!
Dom Willson, optometrist, former practice owner, and optometrist advisor at Optometry Australia, will present a curated early-career talk and Q&A session on topics your textbooks can’t answer, including:
- Common traps in Medicare billing codes
- Salary negotiations
- Red flags in employment contract
- Locuming
- Starting your own practice
- Non-traditional optometry careers (e.g. outreach, remote communities, non-clinical roles, volunteer work)
Dom is ready to walk you through the more complex aspects of professional life and answer any questions you may have. Do you have any burning questions to ask? Click here to let us know beforehand!
This event (including dinner and drinks) is free and for Recent Graduate members. This is a great opportunity to connect with other graduates in South Australia.
Please register by May 8th to secure you place.
Speaker:
Dom Willson |
Dom owned and managed a successful independent optometry practice for over 20 years but has also worked as both employee and locum, for both corporate and independent practices, in city & country locations. His broad experience ranges from working in an optical laboratory in the UK, to supervising final year optometry students, through to outreach optometry in rural NSW and remote NT communities.
In his role as Professional Services Advisor for Optometry Australia, and drawing on his experience as a locum, a visiting outreach optometrist, and a practice owner who employed dozens of optometrists, dispensers and admin staff over a 21 year period, Dom regularly provides OA members with advice in areas such as employment contracts, salary negotiations, working as a locum, Medicare item number usage, and many other topics. Dom has recently moved from NSW to Adelaide to live, and looks forward to getting to know the South Australian optometry scene! |
