Activity Outline
Optometrist reads Optometry Connection educational publication in print or online.
Optometrist logs into OA Institute of Excellence and completes assessment questions developed from articles in Optometry Connection.
Optometrist will receive immediate confirmation upon completion and CPD Hours will be uploaded to the Learning Plan of their CPD Portfolio.
Optometrists completing online assessment will be able to review incorrect answers and have an opportunity to repeat the assessment activity in line with adult learning principles and OBA guidelines.
Opportunity to provide feedback and commentary provided by standard OA Institute of Excellence CPD Activity Feedback Form.
Learning Objectives
- Identify the symptoms of visual snow syndrome
- Understand how optometrists can play a role in recognising visual snow syndrome and providing appropriate care
- Understand the evidence base for treatment of amblyopia in children and adults
- Develop an understanding of key clinical challenges when assessing patients with pathologic myopia
- Apply the Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) principles in clinical practice
- Understand how to get started in offering orthokeratology for myopia management
- Understand the mechanism in how orthokeratology works to correction and to select and manage patients on orthokeratology treatment
- Describe the basic neurology of saccades
- Analyse the symptomatology of impaired saccades in neurological disease
- Evaluate the relationship between saccades and reading
- Improve confidence with their understanding on current management of retinal detachment during pregnancy
