Activity Outline

This presentation will be broken up into two sections: Anterior segment pathology and Posterior segment pathology. Each section will cover the presentation, recommended testing protocol, treatment/management and possible systemic considerations for various ocular pathology.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe signs of anterior segment pathology in children. They should be able to describe clinical tests that can inform diagnosis. They should have an understanding of appropriate treatment/management plans including referral pathways.
  • Describe signs of posterior segment pathology in children. They should be able to describe clinical tests that can inform diagnosis. They should have an understanding of appropriate treatment/management plans including referral pathways.

Meet the speaker

Elspeth completed her Bachelor of Vision Science in 2011 with a Masters in Optometry in 2013 from Queensland University of Technology.

Elspeth is therapeutically qualified and has a strong interest in paediatric eye care, myopia control and specialty contact lenses. Elspeth is an aligned optometrist with the Queensland Children’s Hospital. In 2018 she received a Professional Certificate in Paediatric Eye Care from The College of Optometrists.

In 2022 Elspeth became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. Elspeth currently works at a private practice in Brisbane, Queensland. During recent years Elspeth has been back to Queensland University of Technology as a guest lecturer and clinical supervisor.
