Activity Outline

Mental health issues in children are leading to an increase in worrying symptoms for paediatric eye care professionals. But Dr Christolyn Raj says the answer is to go back to first principles. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, paediatricians have reported an increase in anxiety and mental health issues in children. Among eye care professionals, we are seeing an increased number of clinical manifestations likely related to these underlying psychosomatic conditions.

Learning Objectives

  • Be aware of the increased incidence of anxiety and mental health issues among children
  • Understand how to differentiate between tics and tic-like attacks that may be psychosomatic or linked to sinister pathology
