Learning Objectives

  • 1.1 • Explain behavioural optometry & the role and clinical skills of the behavioural optometrist • Express the role of optometric management of learning related vision problems • Practise effective management of patients requiring vision therapy • Recognise the signs and symptoms of learning-related visual issues
  • 1.2 • Discuss their knowledge of basic eye anatomy • Describe details of the Visual Process • Illustrate the components of an Optometric Vision Examination • Know the effects on visual function of ocular problems.
  • 1.3 • Explain basic details of ocular physiology • Review overall connections of the visual pathways • Repeat the salient points in a vision examination • Relate various vision assessment components to the particular area of the visual pathway
  • 1.4 • Explain their knowledge of Visual Development • Demonstrate the concepts of Primitive reflexes, • Recall the sequence of developmental milestones • Review the hierarchy of child development
  • 2.1 • Illustrate a working knowledge of vision therapy techniques suitable in the treatment of certain visual conditions or deficits in visual skills/abilities • Describe the roles and differences of various eye movements • Explain the role and details of visual attention in terms of control, accuracy & automaticity • Express the roles of eye movements in learning
  • 2.2 • Know the function of Pursuit eye movements • Describe the role of Saccadic eye movements • Justify the importance of Central/Peripheral processing • Recall the role of focal/ambient visual processing
  • 2.3 • Illustrate the role and development of body schema, laterality, and directionality • Explain aspects of Sensory integration (visual motor, visual auditory, visual vestibular) • Illustrate the development and importance of Visual thinking • Express the connection between motor function development, and vision development
  • 2.4 • Illustrate steps in developing Visual thinking • Review development and treatment of sequential processing, visual analysis, visualization, visual imagery • Characterise the potential consequences of refractive status • Describe refractive issues including Hyperopia, Myopia, Astigmatism, Presbyopia
