Activity Outline
Key note speakers Drs Angela Peddle and Vi Tu Banh are presenting a structured 2 hour presentation discussing the nature of oculomotor dysfunctions with some neurology, and then they will demonstrate and workshop an oculomotor method they use to determine tint and/or prism called "Look Touch" method. The two days of presentations and workshops will formally conclude at 3.30 followed by time for questions and discussion.
Learning Objectives
- 1.1 On completion of this session participants will be able to: 1. Discuss the neurology of small prism application. 2. Restate the latest evidence-based treatment of amblyopia. 3. Recall the latest evidence-based treatment of learning-related vision problems
- 1.2 On completion of this session participants will be able to: 1. Relate the newest binocular approaches to treating amblyopia including syntonics/optometric phototherapy for more effective and long-lasting treatment results. 2. Employ the latest clinical research in treatment of amblyopia with spatial prisms where indicated. 3. Apply these clinical principles and practices to a range of case studies, and to future patients with amblyopia
- 1.3 On completion of this session participants will be able to: Implement prescribing of micro-prisms where indicated for patients with concussion-related symptoms. 2. Prescribe yoked prisms for patients with concussion-related symptoms. 3. Understand and prescribe Neurolens for patients with concussion-related symptoms
- 1.4 On completion of this session participants will be able to: 1. Prescribe coloured filters where indicated for patients with concussion- related symptoms. 2. Employ syntonic (optometric phototherapy) filters where indicated for patients with concussion- related symptoms. 3. Choose appropriate prescribing options for a range of case studies and future patients with concussion-related symptoms
- 2.1 On completion of this session participants will be able to: 1. Perform MEM retinoscopy for best binocular prescription and neurofunctional prescribing for amblyopia. 2. Demonstrate binocular vision assessment for patients of all ages with binocular vision dysfunctions. 3. Implement binocular vision assessment for patients of all ages with concussion
- 2.2 On completion of this session participants will be able to: 1. Explain syntonic/optometric phototherapy for treatment for amblyopia. 2. Perform prescribing of microprisms and/or coloured filters for colleagues in workshop mode. 3. Implement yoked prisms and/or neurolens prescribing for a series of case studies
- 2.3a On completion of this session participants will be able to: 1. Describe the neurology of eye movements. 2. Apply optimal assessment techniques to detect and characterise eye movement dysfunctions. 3. Discuss techniques for determining prisms in treatment of certain eye movement dysfunctions
- 2.3b On completion of this session participants will be able to: 4. Characterise techniques for determining tints in treatment of certain eye movement dysfunctions. 5. Perform the Look/Touch method for prescribing for eye movement dysfunctions. 6. Write complex prescriptions combining lens power, prisms and tints for sample cases of eye movement issues.
