Activity Outline

This CPD activity will be an in-person presentation by Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon, Dr Sean Cheng. The topic covered in this presentation will be as follows. We will keep the presentation engaging and interactive by utilising live polling and quizzes. The presentation will conclude with case discussion with real-life cases and a Q&A session, during which the attendees will be divided into small groups of 2-3. The presenter will present the case, and attendees will be asked to come up with their answers. Then the presenter will explain the case.

• Review of ocular anatomy, including relevant normal age-related changes

• Illustration of commonly encountered medical and surgical conditions such as diabetic eye disease, retinal vein occlusion, age-related macular degeneration, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, posterior vitreous detachment, retinal detachment and vitreomacular tractions

• Discussion of diagnostic and management approaches

• Collaborative Care between Optometrists and Ophthalmologists

• Q&A and Case Discussion

  • Recognize the key vitreo-retinal conditions and understand their clinical presentations.
  • Apply appropriate diagnostic techniques and imaging modalities for effective diagnosis of retinal and vitreous disorders.
  • Understand the medical and surgical management options for common vitreo-retinal conditions.
  • Identify when to refer patients to an ophthalmologist and ensure timely intervention for optimal outcomes.
  • Enhance collaboration with ophthalmologists for comprehensive patient care and management of vitreo-retinal conditions.
  • Discuss real-life case studies and gain insights into best practices for managing complex cases.
