Learning Objectives

  • To explore the new imaging options available for Paediatric and Medical Retina Disease. How the young retinal nerve fiber layer informs us about visual function and management. How advances in paediatric retinal imaging and other diagnostic imaging inform us about Shaken Baby Syndrome
  • Top tips from global leaders in the field of Paediatrics covering Glaucoma, Uveitis and neuro-strabismus as well as surgical approaches to retinal haemorrhages in children
  • An overview of developments in inherited retinal disease, their masquerades and clinical as well as ethical issues surrounding genetic testing and how to set up an effective inherited retinal diseases clinic
  • Professor Glen Gole of offers up pearls of wisdom from over 40 years of clinical practice. Childhood nystagmus will be discussed and then a series of paediatric cases will be discussed amongst and expert panel
  • Paediatric issues such as Retinoblastoma, cataract and idiopathic intracranial hypertension and myopia control will be discussed
  • The session starts off with a discussion from renown clinical psychologist Dr Joe Mitchell on mindfulness before discussing themes around breaking bad news
  • Diabetic issues around screening, new therapeutic modalities and finally a surgical discussion around high myopia associated retinal detachment in children
  • Update on the new medical and gene therapies on the horizon for AMD including the exciting changes in the geographic AMD space and the changing nomenculature to describe AMD
  • The conference finishes with another round of clinical discussions on the theme of Medical Retina and Paediatric Cases
