  • Understand pre and post operative medication options
  • Review the advantages and disadvantages of topical, retrobulbar, peribulbar and sub-tenons anaesthesia.
  • Consider where general anaesthesia may be indicated and it's complications.
  • Review which medical conditions and medications may pose problems when referring for cataract surgery
  • Understand and assess the eyes of diabetics
  • Review the management and treatment strategies available to treat diabetic retinopathy
  • Establish patient education tools to empower the diabetic patient understand their condition
