Learning Objectives

  • 1.1 To become familiar with common retinal vascular diseases
  • 1.2 To become familiar with the mechanism of action of retinal laser therapy
  • 1.3 To become familiar with the role of retinal laser therapy in the management of retinal vascular disease
  • 1.4 To become familiar with the role of Anti-VEGF in the management of retinal vascular disease
  • 2.1 To develop an understanding of the mechanism of action of Anti-VEGF agents
  • 2.2 To become familiar with the current and more common applications of Anti-VEGF therapy in retinal disease
  • 2.3 To become familiar with the new and emerging uses for Anti-VEGF agents
  • 3.1 Develop the ability to distinguish meaningful clinical findings
  • 3.2 Develop the ability to correlate patient signs and symptoms with the affected ocular systems
  • 3.3 Develop the ability to implement appropriate therapeutic management in a variety of ocular conditions
  • 3.4 Communicate relevant clinical findings and appropriate management with the patient and other practitioners especially in cases requiring collaborative care
  • 4.1 To become familiar with the spectrum of management options for glaucoma
  • 4.2 To recognise the societal and patient impact of the long-term treatment for glaucoma
  • 4.3 To recognise the need for novel therapeutic and surgical avenues for the management of chronic glaucoma
  • 5.1 Develop the ability to detect and diagnose macular telangiectasia
  • 5.2 Understand the mechanisms of development of macular telangiectasia
  • 5.3 Develop the ability to determine the necessity and expediency of ophthalmological referral in the management of a patient with macular telangiectasia
  • 6.1 To become familiar with the novel features of cataract surgery
  • 6.2 To become familiar with the range of intraocular lens implantation options available
  • 6.3 To identify the patient factors that impact their suitability for cataract surgery and the various intraocular lens options
  • 7.1 To become familiar with the field of oculoplastic surgery
  • 7.2 To compare and contrast the pathological and cosmetic indicators for oculoplastic surgical intervention
  • 7.3 To gain exposure to oculoplastic surgical techniques
